Modern and Distinctive Wedding Ceremony Ideas

Modern and Distinctive Wedding Ceremony Ideas

I recently had a bride inquire about where to get sky lanterns for her wedding.  She wanted to incorporate a special sky lantern wedding wish after her ceremony.   I sent her to a reputable wedding decor vendor I’ve worked with in the past and asked her to please please pretty please send me photos of her tropical fairytale wedding.   This special ceremony wedding wish got me thinking of other modern and distinctive wedding ceremony ideas.  I’ve listed some of my personal favorite unique ceremony traditions below that couples are incorporating into their big day.

1. Sky Lantern Wedding Wish: a very memorable and special tradition couples are incorporating into their special day is with a Sky Lantern Wedding Wish.  A long-time tradition at Asian festivals for thousands of years, paper lanterns were used to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Countless were launched to rid the people of their worries and to decorate the city’s sky with light. The flame would symbolize knowledge and wisdom.  We recommend using sites like Skylanterns.us who offer a variety of colors and start as low as $12.99.

2. Sand Ceremony: This ceremony includes the pouring of different colored sands into a jar to represent the unity of the bride and groom.

3. Handfasting Ceremony: This ceremony includes the braiding of three cords during the ceremony. The three cords represent the forever love of the bride and groom and the combining of two people into one. The cord is then wrapped around the couple’s hands to represent their unity.

4. Plant a Tree: This ceremony includes the planting of a tree by the bride and groom during their wedding ceremony. The tree represents the new life that the bride and groom have started together.

5. Quilt Wrapping: This ceremony involves the wrapping of a quilt around the bride and groom. The quilt is made from pieces of fabric donated by family and friends. The quilt wrapping represents the family and friends’ love and support of the unity of the bride and groom.
