03 May Mint Julep Cocktail Ideas and Inspiration
In honor of this Kentucky Derby Day we wanted to bring you some Mint Julep Cocktail Ideas and Inspiration. The Mint Julep is a revered tradition in the South. It is the staple of the Kentucky Derby, but is welcomed by all on a front porch. Much like Iced Tea, every Southern woman should have a Mint Julep concoction in her kitchen. It’s a simple drink with only four ingredients- mint leaf, bourbon, sugar, and water. Easy, huh? My favorite part of a Mint Julep is the frosty cup. Traditionally, Mint Juleps are served in a silver or pewter cup. The southern rule is to hold the cup only at the base and the rim, so the frost will form in the middle! With this trick, I’ve never had a bad Mint Julep. A Mint Julep is the perfect drink for cocktail hour and can transition you into a Southern Reception. Decorating with silver and pewter Mint Julep cups is classic and elegant. Since the Mint Julep cup can range in size, they can be used in many ways to decorate a table- with flowers, candles, and greenery.
