The garter toss is an old tradition that dates back to the Dark Ages. According to tradition, after the wedding, guests would follow the bride and groom to their hotel room to ensure they arrived safely and wish them well. It was also good luck for the guests to take home a piece of the bride’s clothing. Over time this became a little more literal and evolved into a wild wedding romp. Guests would rip of the bride’s clothes in an attempt to take a piece home, as well as help her prepare for the night! In the midst of this romp, the garter would be tossed and whoever caught it would supposedly be the next to be married.
While wedding guests no longer follow the bride and groom to their room, part of this fun tradition still exists. Garters are a fun way to add even more excitement to an already exciting time! While some brides choose to keep their garters as a keepsake, others have their groom toss them into the crowd as a means of good luck. Garters are so feminine and fun, and even more fun for the groom to find!
