A Very Special Rock The Dress Session by Barbara Jacqueline Photography

When this submission landed in my inbox I must admit it broke my heart; and then it sort of made me mad. This Very Special Rock The Dress Session by Barbara Jacqueline Photography all started with a very disappointing call from the venue explaining they would not be able to host the wedding due to a No Legal Permit. This call was exactly 72 hours before the bride and groom were to walk down the aisle. Their guests were dispatched to an alternate last minute reception location.  And although it was not what they had selected they were thankful to have a place to fall back on.  Then another debbie downer – no flowers.  Very unfortunately the wedding flowers were held up at customs due to recent government shutdown.  However, the biggest heart breaker of all…they still have no photos to show from their special day.  This story does have a silver lining though – the couple decided to enlist Barbara Jacqueline Photography who suggested one of her Rock The Dress Sessions.  Barbara wanted to help this couple recreate their wedding day; their first look, first dance, bouquet toss, and also visit the place where they shared their first date…the San Francisco PacBell Park.  These photos are so beautiful and we know this deserving couple will cherish them forever.

{A Note From The Photographer}

I am excited to share a very special photo shoot. I like to call them Rock the Dress sessions, but this has a bit of an emotional twist, not only for this awesome young couple, but for me as well. My heart was tugged at a little when I heard about all that went wrong on their wedding day, and although I wanted to somehow re-create a “wedding day do-over”, this went beyond my dreams.  The amount of gratitude and thanks I received not only from my clients but their parents, grandparents, siblings and more was quite humbling. I am so grateful and would love to have their story published as a means of inspirations to couples who find themselves in the same predicament. Here’s what happened (in a nutshell)

1. Venue calls the bride and groom to be 72 hours before their wedding and notified them that they cannot host their wedding at the venue due to NO LEGAL PERMIT

2. Guests were dispatched to an alternate last minute reception location (thankfully the catering company had a cooking facility that would accommodate the guests-however this was not their ideal reception theme or location)

3. Wedding flowers were held up at customs due to recent government shutdown (NO FLOWERS!)

4. Photographer hired to shoot the event did not photograph the bride, groom, details or events such as first dance, cake cutting, toasts, etc.

5. Photographer is refusing to share photos So you see, so far what was to be one of the most amazing days for this careful Pinterest bride turned out to be less than. What hurt Jamay the most is not having any photos were her love of her life. When Jamay and her mother-in-law explained this disaster I immediately encouraged them to consider my Rock the Dress Collection, without hesitation they booked me and I began the plan. The Plan: Re-create their day alongside with their personal stories with the plan of recreating there Romantics, Details, First Dance (under the stars), and of course their nighttime shots. I wish we had more time to have created more but I also surprised the couple with a colleague cinematographer who came along and filmed the event. We should have a reel by December or so. Here’s a heart warming email I received from the bride when she received her sneak peeks!

More about the couple: Jamay and Jason met in high school many years ago. Jason’s sister had been Jamay’s best friend since then and Jamay found herself at their family home quite often. I recall having a conversation with Debbie (Jason’s mom), who said “I’ve loved Jamay from the first time I met her, I watched her grow up.” And although the couple dated once during their 20?s, their paths took a different course and they went separate directions. A decade later they would run into each other again at Carly’s wedding (Jason’s sister), in 2009, and they have been together ever since and are happy to announce “Happily Married” this past October! Jamay, a hopeless romantic and true believer of love and poetry enjoys writing poems, reading, Yoga, health and wellness. Jason enjoys sports, the SF Giants, snowboarding, the outdoors and family living. They were both very excited to plan and schedule their shoot and we were over the top excited to select locations that fit their story. There’s something fabulous about Rocking the Dress, and I have to say that taking the time helps to create those timeless, beautiful images they will refer to as their first family heirlooms and cherished art pieces for many generations to come. Here’s how they feel about each other (in a few sweet words). Jamay: “I knew I loved him when he took me and my 3 year old son to the Giants game. We had a long walk from the parking lot towards the stadium, he carried my son and put him on his shoulders. Jason then put his own Giants hat on his head. I knew I loved him when I witnessed that moment!” Jason: “I knew I loved Jamay the day I met her. We had a special connection the moment we met.”
