A Classically Traditional Mississippi Wedding by B. Flint Photography

Happy Real Wedding Wednesday SB readers!  There are some weddings that are so timeless and elegant you just know that 50 years from now they’ll still provide current inspiration to draw from.  Today’s Classically Traditional Mississippi Wedding by B. Flint Photography is exactly this.  Shelby and Joshua tied the knot last summer in the historic Women’s Chapel at Mississippi University followed by a reception at Bella Villa.  I think you’ll love how this couple managed to create a ‘something old’ meets ‘something new’ wedding.  The over-all style of this wedding is definitely classic with small doses of both nostalgic and of-the-moment trends.  Case in point –  the groom and groomsmen’s handsome checkered bow ties paired with old-school suspenders; and the brides vintage inspired gown (swoonalicious) accompanied by her must-have cap-toe wedding pumps.  Seriously, I must have these.  Other highlights for me are these modern wedding invitations, the floral collared bridesmaid dresses, and this neutral color palette of light peaches, pinks, and a bold splash of purple.  Last but certainly not least – I cannot get enough of our SB interview with this beautiful bride.  Your hearts will go pitter-patter.  Thank you for letting us share your love story Shelby.  You are the reason why I love this blog.

{From The Beautiful Bride}

SB: When and where did you get married?
BB: We were married June 22, 2013 in Columbus, Mississippi

SB: Did you have a specific color palate?
BB: My colors seemed to revolved around the guy’s cotton bowties- a mix of light peach, pink, beige with a bold purple accent.

SB: How did you decide on your style and where did you draw inspiration from?
BB:
Deciding on style was one of the most difficult parts of planning for me. I think I was drawing inspiration from so many places, so many beautiful weddings that my own personal taste and style was lost. I quickly learned though, and once I started to pick things I liked for our wedding. Don’t worry about how it will tie together, trust that you have great style and others will see that.

SB: Where did you get your dreamy gown? Can you describe it for us?
BB: My gown was purchased from a vintage dress vendor called the “Timeless Bride” located in Mobile, AL. I tried on quite a few gowns, all different styles and from different decades. My dress was a matte satin material with embroidered bead accents and a scalloped sweetheart bust and sleeves. I knew my dress was the one because I felt stunning when I saw myself in it. Plus, I love anything unique, and I’ve never seen another dress like it.

SB: What about your bridesmaids dresses? What did you like best about them?
BB:
My bridesmaid dresses were Bari Jay’s. Again, I just loved the uniqueness of them. The other thing I really loved about them was that they were flattering on all of my bridesmaids, all of whom had different body shapes and curves.

SB: Tell us about your mister –  what do you love best about him?
BB:
What I love most about Josh is that he’s managed to constantly provide me with hope and joy amidst life’s victories and sufferings. He loves me with such a big heart and I feel adored each day. He is, truly, the apple of my eye!

SB: What special traditions did you incorporate?
BB:
Josh and I decided to partake in a feet washing ceremony as our first act together as man and wife. Just as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her, too did we in that act. It symbolized to us Christ’s covenant bond of deep love and sacrifice on display to one another in our own lives to come. Also- When the pastor asked for the rings, each ring made its way up to the front only after being passed through each one of our attendants hands. This was special to us because it symbolized our closest friends and families further blessing and standing up for & behind our union.

SB: What was your favorite moment of the day?
BB:
After leaving our reception, we went down to the street to be met by our driver who was taking us to our room for the night. Upon getting to the car, we realized that one of my bags was missing. My husband, Josh, promptly turns around to run back inside to retrieve it. In his hurry, he runs into a corner of the wall located in the entrance of our reception venue, gashing his head open in the process. Josh makes his way upstairs to be met by our photographer who kindly tells him he’s bleeding.  He then is immediately surrounded by every mother, sister, and grandmother present who assesses and tends to his new head injury. He eventually finds my missing bag and is sent off for the second time, now with a frozen bag of blueberries our caterer had dug up to ease the swelling of his wound. We have a laugh, and take our first trip as man and wife to Walgreens to retrieve some butterfly bandages. Finally, we get back to our room only to find the bag of blueberries had been leaking the entire time- and was now all over his white shirt. We’ve kept that blueberry stained shirt ever since to commemorate a very amusing end to our fairy tale night that now makes us laugh every time we remember it.

SB:  Any advise for our soon-to-be brides? Is there anything you’d do differently if you could do it again?
BB:
I learned a few key things along the way in planning our wedding. Be sure to do your research concerning venues and vendors well in advance. Allow others to step in and help (this is crucial to preserve your own sanity). ENJOY being a bride and cherish that soon to be groom of yours through the whole process. The most important thing to remember is to not stress the small things.  That being said, you can be sure to count on that there will still be hang-ups on your wedding day. We definitely had our fair share- the cake we received looked nothing like discussed and all of the popsicles we had specially made by a local creamery for the reception melted before guests could enjoy them. But in the midst of it all, it was the last thing on my mind. Life’s an adventure, a precious gift- be all there wherever you are, especially on that day.

SB: What are three words that sum up the day?
BB: A
