01 Aug A Memorial Union Engagement Session in Madison, Wisconsin
Dan and Christine worked together at Wal-Mart pharmacy very briefly. She worked at various locations including the one where she met Dan. She was a pharmacist in charge one day at the East Madison location, and Dan happened to be coming in to work after his classes while he was attending pharmacy school. Christine freely gave up her food for Dan, a hungry college student, upon his request on the very first time they worked together. After that, they worked together only a couple more times in a period of 6 months or so. And, of course, Christine gave up more of her food (brought to work for herself) freely (and happily) for hungry Dan. On Dan’s last day of work as a Wal-Mart Pharmacy employee [accepted a new job opportunity elsewhere], Christine happened to also be working at that location. On that day, something very unusual happened. There was a power outage in the whole store! This lasted over half an hour leaving pharmacy employees with nothing to do except to wait patiently and guard the pharmacy. The only working electronic devices were their mobile phones. That’s when Dan and Christine “became friends” on Facebook. Shortly thereafter, Dan messaged her via Facebook that he “owes” her food and wants to take her out for dinner. How did the proposal happen? It was the morning of Christine’s birthday. Dan set up a mini breakfast for her with a cup of coffee and a piece of left-over birthday cake. He woke her up from her couch [she loves to sleep on her couch!]. She was too sleepy to fully comprehend what was going on. Dan gave her a birthday card to open. She bursted into tears when she read “I love you” written in Korean, by Dan. This was the very first time he confessed his love to her in words. This was quite a shocker for her because he has made a statement that he will confess his love only when he is ready to follow through. This surprise was big enough for her that morning, yet she then found Dan on his knee holding a jewelry box in front of her. He proposed and she bursted into more tears and screamed with joy! Evidently, she was still in shock because she did not say “yes” until she was prompted by Dan asking “Are you going to say yes?”
